SUFFOLK official Abi Byrne has received another major appointment.

Abi (pictured centre, above) will referee The FA WSL Continental Tyres League Cup Final between Chelsea FC Women and Bristol City FC Women on Sunday.

The final is taking place at Vicarage Road, home of Watford FC, kicking off at 2.30pm. The match will be broadcast live on BT Sport.

Abi’s assistant referees on Sunday will be Emily Carney and Jack Clench, while Kirsty Dowle will be the fourth official and Jack Bloxham the reserve assistant referee.

It is the latest in a series of high-profile appointments for 28-year-old Abi, who lives near Mildenhall.

Abi was the fourth official at the Vitality Women’s FA Cup Final in which Manchester City defeated Everton 3-1 after extra time at Wembley Stadium last November.

The final, which had been delayed from the end of last season due to the coronavirus pandemic, was her third Women’s Cup Final appearance in four years and her second visit to Wembley in less than three months.

Abi was also the fourth official for the Women’s FA Community Shield last August.

Suffolk FA Senior Referee Development Officer Alan Dale said: “On behalf of Suffolk FA, we would like to congratulate Abi on this terrific appointment. We wish Abi ad her team all the very best for the occasion.”
