KBB Grassroots Festival August 2021 2

Festival football back after Covid

FESTIVAL Football returned for more than 100 Youth teams in Suffolk on Sunday.

FESTIVAL Football returned for more than 100 Youth teams in Suffolk on Sunday.

More than 100 teams took part in the first of a series of KBB Suffolk FA Pre-Season Grassroots Festivals.

The festival, which was hosted by Kesgrave Kestrels FC, took place at Kesgrave High School on Sunday.

The festival provided football for 106 teams from across Suffolk to continue their pre-season preparations before the Youth football season starts in September.

Suffolk FA Football Development Officer (Retention) James Morley, who organised the festival, said: “Following the past 18 months which has been hindered drastically by the Covid pandemic, it was seen as an opportunity to start getting Youth teams, players, coaches, volunteers, and spectators together and celebrate the return of football.

“The weather tried across the day to hamper the festival with one downpour, but this didn’t dampen people’s spirits to provide a fun free festival to everyone in attendance.

“The festival ran in three parts and allowed us to cater for all age groups for both boys and girls. Each festival also allowed for most of the age group festivals to play their format for the 2021-22 season to provide them pre-season football against different teams in a short period of time.”

James continued: “It was a great feeling to get back out on the grass and deliver a large event again following the past year-and-a-half. A lot of hard work was put in from the team at Suffolk FA in the build-up and during the festival to be able to deliver an event for 106 teams.

“It was great to see Kesgrave High School full and every pitch being used for most of the day with teams enjoying their football.

“A massive thank you to Kesgrave Kestrels for all their work across the day from looking after the car parking to providing food and drink across the entire day.

“We hope everyone who attended the festival enjoyed their day and didn’t get too wet! And you can go and enjoy the season.”

Entries close for the Haverhill festival on Wednesday, August 25th 2021 at 5pm.

Entries for the festival at Kirkley & Pakefield FC closes on Wednesday 1st September 1st 2021 at 5pm.
