Field's love affair with cup continues
CONNOR Field’s love affair with the CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup continued on Saturday.
The midfielder scored a hat-trick for Ipswich Wanderers, playing their first match in this season's competition, as the holders eased their way into the third round.
Field’s treble helped Wanderers to a 4-0 win away to lower-league Bourne Vale United.
It was Field who scored the winner for Wanderers as they came from behind to defeat Henley Athletic 2-1 in last season’s semi-final.
The diminutive midfielder then scored the only goal of the game as Wanderers won 1-0 versus Coplestonians in the delayed final to lift the cup for a second time.
Wanderers will now be away to East Bergholt United in round three.
There was also success for another Thurlow Nunn League Division One side against Macron SIL Senior Division opponents in Saturday’s other outstanding second-round match.
Claydon, who entered the match as leaders of the SIL, came back from 2-0 down to level the tie up at 3-3 with six minutes remaining.
With penalties looming large, George Frodsham netted a 93rd winner for the visitors.
Haverhill Borough will now be away to another SIL side, Trimley Red Devils, in the third round.
Players from Haverhill Borough (yellow shirts) are pictured celebrating after taking the lead early in their tie at Claydon (blue shirts) on Saturday.
