Holders return to Senior Cup action

HOLDERS Ipswich Wanderers return to CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup action on Saturday.

HOLDERS Ipswich Wanderers return to CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup action on Saturday.

Just two months after lifting the trophy, Wanderers will begin their defence in one of the two remaining second-round ties with a tricky away trip at Bourne Vale United.

Wanderers defeated four Macron SIL sides on their way to winning the delayed 2019-20 final at the start of October, including a 1-0 victory over Coplestonians in the final.

And in Bounre Vale United another SIL Senior Division side stand in their way of reaching this season’s third round.

Bourne Vale United, who sit exactly half-way in the table, face a Wanderers side who are still undefeated in Division One of the Thurlow Nunn League this season.

The winners will be away to East Bergholt United in round three.

Another SIL v Thurlow Nunn League tie is taking place a few miles away as Senior Division leaders Claydon host Haverhill Borough, who are one off the bottom of Division One.

Claydon lost 2-1 to Wanderers thanks to a late winner in last season’s first round, while Borough bowed at the same stage, surrendering a 3-1 lead to lose 4-3 at Henley Athletic.

Borough, who were losing semi-finalists to Crane Sports in this competition in the 2016-17 season, will have their work cut out if they are to progress this time around.

A trip to Trimley Red Devils in the third round awaits the winners of this tie.

Haverhill Borough (blue shirts) are pictured in action against Crane Sports (white shirts) in their 4-1 defeat in the semi-final in the 2016-17 season.

Weekend Fixtures

CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup Second Round: Claydon v Haverhill Borough (1.45pm), Bourne Vale Utd v Ipswich Wanderers (1.45pm).
