Premier Cup Final awaits the winners

A PLACE in this season’s Suffolk Premier Cup Final awaits the winners of Tuesday’s semi-final.

FELIXSTOWE & Walton United and Leiston go into Tuesday’s Endeavour Automotive Suffolk Premier Cup Semi-Final on the back of disappointing defeats.

Both sides were beaten away from home on Saturday ahead of their delayed semi-final meeting at Humber Doucy Lane, home of Ipswich Wanderers FC, kick-off 7.45pm.

The tie was originally scheduled for two weeks ago but was postponed after heavy rain left the pitch waterlogged.

Leiston, who had Joe Marsden sent off in the 39th minute, lost 3-0 at Stamford on Saturday to make it three consecutive defeats in Pitching In Southern League Premier Central.

Felixstowe & Walton United, meanwhile, were knocked off top spot in the Isthmian North table after losing 2-0 at previous leaders Lowestoft Town, who went back to the top of the table.

Leiston joint manager Chris Wigger said: “Although Saturday’s away loss at Stamford was disappointing, I feel it was still full of effort and the sending off definitely affected the swing of things.

“The lads know that Tuesday is an opportunity to put that right! And with Jama (Jamar Loza) coming back into selection that gives the squad a boost.

“We know that this is a very tough fixture, but the lads are prepared.”

Felixstowe & Walton United lost for the first time since the turn of the year after stringing together eight consecutive victories in an 11-match unbeaten run.

Manager Stuart Boardley said: “It was really disappointing to lose Saturday’s game - it was more the manner of our performance that was the disappointing part.

“We weren’t really at it and Lowestoft were better on the day, but I think this game comes at a good time for us to get Saturday out of our system, so we are really looking forward to it.

“But we are hit with a lot of injuries and unavailability for Tuesday, so it does pose us some problems, but we will put out our best side possible and give it our best shot.”

The winners will meet holders Needham Market, who defeated an Ipswich Town XI 4-2 in their semi-final, in the final on a date and at a venue yet to be confirmed.
