Eight cup semis on Sunday League Day

ALL eight adult men’s Sunday county cup finalists should be decided this weekend.

ALL eight adult men’s Sunday county cup finalists should be decided this weekend.

The semi-finals of the Best Badges Suffolk Sunday Cup, Shield, Trophy and Veterans’ Cup are appropriately taking place on the inaugural Sunday League Day.

Sunday League Day is following in the footsteps of Non-League Day, which has been running since 2010 and this season takes place the day before.

In the Best Badges Suffolk Sunday Cup Semi-Finals Bourne Vale United entertain two-time winners Kitchener Taverners.

Bourne Vale are currently sixth in the Ipswich Sunday Football League Premier Division, while Taverners are top and have won 12 and drawn one of their 13 league games so far this season.

The other semi-final sees holders Moreton Hall Ferals (2nd) have home advantage against Godolphin (4th) in an all-Premier Logos Bury & District Sunday League clash. Action is pictured from last season’s final in which Moreton Hall Ferals (blue shirts) defeated Mellis (red shirts) 1-0 at Needham Market FC.

Three of the four sides contesting the Best Badges Suffolk Sunday Shield Semi-Finals are from the BDSL.

League leaders Thetford Wanderers welcome fellow BDSL Division Two side Bedfield, who occupy fourth place, while Bury Bowl (5th) are at home to Taverners, the only remaining ISFL side who are currently second in Division One.

Risby Greens, who top Division Four of the BDSL, are on the road to third-placed Barton Mills in what looks to be an evenly-matched tie.

Haverhill Ex-Servicemen’s Club, who have reeled off 12 straight wins and are second in BDSL Division Three, take on ISFL Division Two side Gardeners Arms, who are second in the table after 15 wins in 15 league games.

East meets West in the final four of the Best Badges Suffolk Veterans’ Cup as Whitton Colts welcome Moulton.

The other tie is between holders Woodbridge Town and Ransomes Sports.

There are two county cup matches on Thursday evening - both in the Veo Suffolk Under-18 Midweek Cup.

The twice-postponed quarter-final tie between Stowmarket Town and Haverhill Rovers will now take place at The New Croft. The winners of that tie will meet Walsham-le-Willows in the last four.

The first semi-final is taking place, ironically at Stowmarket Town FC, on Thursday evening when holders AFC Sudbury face Bury Town.
