Big Suffolk derby is on Non-League Day

ONE of Suffolk’s biggest matches of the season is taking place on Non-League Day.

ONE of Suffolk’s biggest matches of the season is taking place on Non-League Day.

Lowestoft Town host Felixstowe & Walton United in a top-of-the-table clash in Pitching In Isthmian North at the Fosters Solicitors Community Stadium.

The Trawlerboys, who have been top for most of the season, were knocked off the summit last Saturday and it’s now the Seasiders who lead by one point with both clubs having six matches still to play.

That is one of two Step 4 matches in Suffolk on Saturday - Ipswich Wanderers are at home to Basildon United in the other one.

All three of Suffolk Step 3 clubs - AFC Sudbury, Leiston and Needham Market - have away fixtures in Pitching In Southern League Premier Central.

Five of Suffolk’s Step 5 clubs have home fixtures in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division - Brantham Athletic, Lakenheath, Long Melford, Walsham-le-Willows and Woodbridge Town.

A further five Suffolk sides also welcome opponents at Step 6 level in Division One North of the Thurlow Nunn League.

These include three Suffolk derbies as well as second-placed Framlingham Town at home to Holland FC, who are fourth in the table.

In the Macron Suffolk & Ipswich League the Morrison Freight Cup Semi-Finals take centre stage.

League leaders Henley Athletic travel to Debenham LC, while CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup Finalists Trimley Red Devils take on Tattingstone United at Bourne Vale Sports & Social Club.

And Ipswich Town Women will be playing an historic first-ever league fixture at Portman Road on Saturday afternoon.

They welcome Chatham in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division, kick-off 3pm.

Set up as a social media experiment in 2010, Non-League Day has now grown to become an annual part of the football calendar, backed by Premier League and Football League clubs, MPs, celebrities, media organisations, charities and most importantly the non-league clubs themselves and the fans who turn up on the day.

Non-League Day, which is once again being supported by Kick It Out, is always scheduled to coincide with an international break, promoting grassroots football.
