Ten Primary Cup ties are set for Saturday

TEN of the 16 McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup Second Round ties take place on Saturday.

TEN of the 16 McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup Second Round ties take place on Saturday.

Nine of them will kick-off at 12.30pm and one an hour earlier, clubs having agreed an earlier start time to avoid a potential clash with England’s last-16 match in the World Cup.

Kesgrave Kestrels, last season’s runners-up, had a 3-2 victory over Bacton United 89 Reserves in round one and now face Coplestonians ‘A’ at home. Kesgrave Kestrels (blue & white striped shirts) are pictured above in action against Bardwell Sports (maroon shirts) in last season's final at Colchester United FC.

Laxfield, losing finalists in the 2020-21 season, were 7-2 winners away to Hundon Reserves in the first round. They face another away day, at Mendlesham, on Saturday.

After winning 3-0 at Haverhill Town Senior ‘A’, West Row Gunners have home advantage against Coddenham, who overcame Spexhall Huntsman & Hounds Reserves in a penalty shoot-out.

The other six ties are scheduled to take place next Saturday, December 10th, and the third-round draw will not be announced until Thursday, December 15th.

It’s the third round of this season’s Best Badges Suffolk Sunday Trophy on Sunday morning.

Clapgate Lane, who have scored 13 goals in their two ties to reach the last 16, are away to Foxhall United, who reached this stage of the competition thanks to defeating Red Star UK 4-3 on penalties following a 2-2 draw.

AFC Dragonfly have found the net 12 times in their two matches so far, and they now face The Brickmakers Arms, who were 4-0 winners away to Trinity last time out.

Thetford Wanderers, scorers of ten goals in two ties in this season’s competition, travel to Stowupland Falcons, who knocked out Chantry Phoenix 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in round two.

The draw for the quarter-finals will be broadcast on BBC Radio Suffolk’s Non-League Hour next Thursday between 8pm and 9pm.

One of the three Best Badges Suffolk Veterans’ Cup second-round postponed last weekend due to the wet weather is taking place on Sunday as ties Mildenhall Town host Kedington.
