Thurston aiming to make up for defeat

THURSTON aim to erase the pain of last season’s Suffolk Junior Cup Semi-Final loss.

THURSTON have the chance on Friday to erase the pain of last season’s Parkers Pitches Suffolk Junior Cup Semi-Final loss.

The West Suffolk side raced into a three-goal lead in last season’s last-four meeting with Mutford & Wrentham and looked to be heading for the final, before losing 4-3.

Thurston face fellow Macron SIL Division One side Somersham in this season’s semi-finals at Debenham LC on Friday evening, kick-off 7.45pm.

The Blue Socks lead Division One - 13 points ahead of third-placed Somersham, who do have three matches in hand.

Neither side have reached the final before, and nor have the other two semi-finalists who meet the following afternoon.

Woolverstone United take on Kesgrave Kestrels at Hadleigh United FC on Saturday, kick-off 2pm.

Woolverstone, who sit seventh in Division One, tackle opponents who are third in Division Two of the SIL and have lost just twice in 15 matches this season - the same as Thurston.

The two teams met in the first round last season in Woolverstone’s first match in the competition as a Division One side following promotion in their centenary season.

Kesgrave Kestrels won on that occasion 3-1, before losing by the odd goal in three away to Lakenheath Casuals in the third round.

Kesgrave Kestrels (red & black striped shirts) are pictured above in action versus Ipswich Wanderers (blue shirts) in Division Two of the SIL this season.
