TWO of the competition’s most successful sides meet in the Best Badges Suffolk Veterans’ Cup on Sunday.

Woodbridge Town, who have won the competition three times, entertain Bury Town, one of three sides to have lifted the trophy twice, in the third round.

Inaugural winners Kirkley & Pakefield (2008-09 & 2009-10) and Leiston (2011-12 & 2012-13) both won the cup twice in its first five seasons.

Bury Town (2014-15 & 2015-16) then enjoyed back-to-back wins, both versus Woodbridge, who turned the tables on Bury Town to win the 2016-17 final.

The Woodpeckers tasted success the following season and again last season, albeit losing three consecutive finals inbetween to Whitton United, who then defeated Lowestoft Town to make it four titles in a row.

Woodbridge Town (black & white striped shirts) are pictured above in action versus AFC Sudbury (yellow shirts) in last season’s quarter-final tie at Notcutts Park. Woodbridge won 3-2.

Ipswich Wanderers, one of last season’s losing semi-finalists, make the short trip to Ransomes Sports, whose Reserves were due to face Lowestoft Town, also losing semi-finalists a year ago, but Ransomes Sports Reserves have withdrawn from the competition.

There are also matches in the Mixed Plate competitions, starting with an all-Haverhill clash in the Under-16 competition on Friday evening.

There are fixtures in the U13, U14, U15 and U16 competitions scheduled for Sunday morning.
