Route to Primary Cup Final clearer

THE route to the Suffolk Primary Cup Final is clearer following the weekend’s matches.

THE route to this season’s McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup Final is clearer following the weekend’s matches.

Three of the outstanding four second-round ties went ahead and four of the five scheduled third-round fixtures were completed.

It means that five of the eight quarter-finalists are now known, with a total of 12 teams remaining in this season’s competition.

Unity (6-0 winners at Achilles) and Beccles Town ‘A’ (4-0 winners at Pakefield Dynamos) both had comfortable away wins in the second round.

They are joined in the third round by Kirton Athletic Reserves, who won 3-1 at home to AFC Oulton Reserves.

The only second-round tie to fall victim to the weather was that at Boxford Rovers, who will now concede home advantage under county cup rules and travel to Bacton United 89 Reserves this Saturday.

Thurston Reserves were the biggest winners in Saturday’s four third-round games, putting eight goals past Oulton United without reply.

Redgrave Rangers, the 2008-09 winners of this competition, won 2-0 at home to Cockfield United Reserves.

Holders Coddenham reached the last eight courtesy of a 3-1 victory over Kesgrave Kestrels Reserves and Cavendish also won away from home, 2-1 at Grundisburgh Reserves.

The quarter-final draw will take place next week.
