Attention turns to Primary Cup ties

ATTENTION turns to the McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup as the county cups resume this weekend.

Four outstanding second-round ties are taking place along with five third-round fixtures on Saturday afternoon.

The second-round matches were all victims of the wet weather on the original date in December. Ironically, the four winners of those ties will face each other in the last 16.

Unity, who are top of Macron SIL Division Four, will fancy their chances of progressing at the expense of hosts Achilles Reserves, who sit ninth in Division Five.

Another Division Five side, Bacton United 89 Reserves, are away to Essex & Suffolk Border League Division Four mid-table side Boxford Rovers.

Lowestoft & District League side AFC Oulton Reserves will be confident of reaching the third round when they make the journey down the East Coast to face mid-table SIL Division side opponents Kirton Athletic Reserves.

AFC Oulton Reserves top Division Three after winning 11 of their 12 fixtures so far and boast a goal difference of +68!

Pakefield Dynamos, who are second bottom of Division Three of the LDL, entertain Division Two side Beccles Town ‘A’ in a North Suffolk clash.

In the third-round ties, Redgrave Rangers, second in SIL Division Three, will start favourites to get past visitors Cockfield United Reserves, who are eighth in Division Four.

Grundisburgh Reserves will be looking to emulate the feat of their first team in the Parkers Pitches Suffolk Junior Cup and reach the quarter-final stage of their county cup competition.

They welcome Cavendish, who currently occupy eighth position in Division Two of the ESBL. Cavendish (red & black striped shirts) are pictured above in action against Silver End (tangerine shirts) in the ESBL.

The same applies to Thurston Reserves, whose first team are through to the last eight of the Junior Cup.

They top Division Five of the SIL with seven wins from seven matches and have home advantage versus Oulton United, who sit fifth in Division Three of the LDL.

Occold will be aiming to avoid a banana skin when the ninth-placed SIL Division Three side host East Bergholt United ‘A’, who are tenth in Division Five.

Holders Coddenham Athletic (4th) travel to fellow SIL Division Four side Kesgrave Kestrels Reserves (8th) in the other tie.

There’s just one county cup tie on Sunday in the first round of the Suffolk Mixed Under-13 Plate competition.
