New name to appear on the Junior Cup

A NEW name will appear on the Suffolk Junior Cup this season.

A NEW name will appear on the Parkers Pitches Suffolk Junior Cup this season.

Three former winners of the competition all lost home ties in Saturday’s quarter-finals.

Woolverstone United won 3-1 at fellow Macron SIL Division one side Achilles (2008-09 winners) and Somersham had a 2-0 success at Stanton (1993-94 winners) in another Division One clash.

SIL Division Two side Kesgrave Kestrels caused an upset at Grundisburgh (1955-56 winners) as they won 3-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw.

They will be joined in the final four by SIL Division One leaders Thurston, last year’s losing semi-finalists, who defeated Division Two side Kirton Athletic 2-1.

Holders Coddenham Athletic stayed on course to retain the McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup after a 3-0 victory over Thurston Reserves.

Again, there were three away wins. Joining them in the last four will be Cavendish, who won 5-3 at Kirton Athletic Reserves, Redgrave, 3-1 winners at Occold, and Ipswich Vale Exiles, who returned from Unity with a 4-2 victory. Action is pictured above from the match between Kirton Athletic Reserves (yellow & black striped shirts) and Cavendish (red & black striped shirts) as the visitors look to break.

The semi-final draws for both competitions will be broadcast on BBC Radio Suffolk and via the Suffolk FA X feed next Friday from 6.30pm.

Past winners Stowmarket Town U23s and Walsham-le-Willows U23s are both through to the semi-finals of this season’s Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup.

Both sides enjoyed 5-1 victories – Stowmarket Town U23s at lower league Henley Athletic Reserves and Walsham-le-Willows at home to Long Melford U23s.

Stowmarket Town U23s will now meet Brantham Athletic U23s while Walsham-le-Willows U23s will takes on Beccles Town Reserves in next month’s semi-finals.

In the Portable Space Mixed Suffolk Under-16 Cup, holders Haverhill Rovers EJA defeated Brantham Athletic 5-0 to progress to the semi-finals.

Only four of the scheduled ties across the U12, U13, U14, U15, U16 and U18 Cups were postponed.

The semi-final draws will be announced next week.
