Quarter-final ties in ten competitions

THE quarter-finals are taking place this weekend across ten different county cup competitions.

THE quarter-finals are taking place this weekend across ten different county cup competitions.

There are matches in four of the five adult male Saturday competitions and the six Portable Space Mixed Suffolk Youth Cups on Sunday.

The fourth and final CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup quarter-final will see either Coplestonians or East Bergholt United join the three winners from last weekend in the semi-final draw.

The two Macron SIL Senior Division sides actually met in the league last Saturday, drawing 1-1 at Gandish Road.

Coplestonians, who are currently fifth, will look to make home advantage count against their seventh-placed visitors, who were losing semi-finalists to Leiston U23s two years ago.

The semi-final draw will be broadcast on BBC Radio Suffolk on Friday between 6.30pm and 7pm.

The draw for the Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup Semi-Finals will also take place then, with the remaining two last-eight ties scheduled for the following afternoon.

Henley Athletic may have exited the Senior Cup last Saturday, but their Reserve side will be aiming to go one better and reach the final four this weekend.

Standing in their way will be Stowmarket Town U23s, who are enjoying a successful season in the Thurlow Nunn Reserve League.

They occupy second spot at present – two places higher than Long Melford U23s, who visit 12th placed Walsham-le-Willows in the other tie.

Achilles know what it is like to taste success in the Senior Cup, winning the competition in both 2016-17 and again in 2018-19.

However, their focus this weekend will be firmly on progressing in the Parkers Pitches Suffolk Junior Cup.

Achilles (10th) welcome Woolverstone United (7th) to Salmet Close in one of two all-SIL Division One ties. Stanton (11th) entertain Somersham (3rd) in the other one.

Stanton (red shirts) are pictured above in action against Cockfield (navy blue shirts) in an SIL Division One fixture last December.

Division One sides Thurston, who have now not been beaten in the league for two years, and Grundisburgh will be favourites to progress at the expense of their SIL Division Two visitors Kirton Athletic and Kesgrave Kestrels respectively.

Thurston Reserves will be bidding to make it a semi-final double for the club this season when they visit holders Coddenham Athletic in the last four of the McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup.

They top SIL Division Five with nine wins from nine matches but face a Coddenham side second in the league above.

Kirton Athletic Reserves, seventh in Division Five, entertain Cavendish, who are eighth in Division Two of the Essex & Suffolk Border League.

Division Six table-toppers Ipswich Vale Exiles, face a Unity side fourth in Division Four, while two Division Three sides – Occold (9th) and Redgrave Rangers (11th) – meet in the other tie.

The semi-final draws for both competitions will be broadcast on BBC Radio Suffolk and via the Suffolk FA X feed next Friday from 6.30pm.

The quarter-finals of the Portable Space Mixed Suffolk U12, U13, U14, U15, U16 and U18 Cups are taking place on Sunday.
