Red Devils through to first semi-final

TRIMLEY Red Devils are through to their first Suffolk Senior Cup Semi-Final.

TRIMLEY Red Devils are through to the CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup Semi-Finals for the first time.

The Macron SIL Senior Division side defeated last season’s losing finalists AFC Sudbury 3-1 on penalties after a dramatic finale to their 2-2 draw at Stennetts Playing Field on Saturday.

The visitors led twice, before Trimley equalised in the 96th minute to take the tie to penalties and then win the shoot-out.

They will be joined in the last four by Leiston Under-23s, runners-up two years ago, and Bungay Town, the 2017-18 losing finalists.

Leiston U23s won 4-1 at home to lower league Haughley United while Foster Solicitors Anglian Combination Division One side Bungay Town shocked reigning SIL champions Henley Athletic as they progressed 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw.

The home team, who have been beaten by the eventual winners in each of the last three seasons, would have fancied their chances of going through, but will have to wait another season before having the chance to lift the Senior Cup.

The fourth and final quarter-final takes place this Saturday when Coplestonians host fellow SIL Senior Division side Coplestonians for a place in the final four.

The draw for the semi-finals will be broadcast on BBC Radio Suffolk and via the Suffolk FA X feed between 6.30pm and 7pm on Friday.

Beccles Town Reserves and Brantham Athletic U23s secured their semi-finals spots in the Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup on Saturday.

Penalties were required by Beccles Town Reserves to see off Halesworth Town Reserves after the score finished 1-1, the visitors winning the shoot-out 7-6.

Brantham Athletic U23s had a more clear-cut path to the last four, recording a 3-0 success at Claydon.

Again, the draw will be announced from 6.30pm on Friday on BBC Radio Suffolk and simultaneously released via the Suffolk FA X feed.

All four quarter-final matches in the Best Badges Suffolk Sunday Cup were won by three goals or more.

Bourne Vale United and Godolphin both had 4-1 home wins versus AFC Bergholt and Baltic United respectively.

Three-time winners Kitchener Taverners won 4-0 at home to Borussia Martlesham, while holders Moreton Hall Ferals put three goals past Bacton United 89 without reply.

It was a similar story in three of the four matches in the quarter-finals of the Best Badges Suffolk Sunday Shield.

Taverners (5-0 v Stoke By Clare), Bedfield United (4-1 v Real Suffolk) and Bury Bowl (4-1 v Shotley Rose) all went through.

The other tie was settled by a penalty shoot-out, Thetford Wanderers knocking out Moreton Hall 96 4-2 after a goalless draw.

There were two big wins in the last eight of the Best Badges Suffolk Sunday Trophy, Haverhill Ex-Servicemen’s Club triumphing 9-2 at Bury United and Gardeners Arms seeing off Chedburgh 6-1.

The other two ties both resulted in 3-1 away wins – Barton Mills at Eye Saints Youth and Risby Greens at AFC Dragonfly.

The draws for the semi-finals will be announced later this week.
