Tattingstone suffer penalties heartache

TATTINGTONE United’s first-ever match in the Suffolk Senior Cup ended in heartache.

TATTINGTONE United’s first-ever match in the CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup ended in penalty shoot-out heartache.

The Macron SIL Senior Division side bowed out 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw with AFC Sudbury Reserves, who were last season’s losing finalists.

The all-SIL tie between reigning Senior Division champions Henley Athletic and Halesworth Town, who of course lost to FC Sudbury Reserves in last season’s semi-final, also went to penalties, Henley winning the shoot-out 4-2.

Two SIL sides defeated Thurlow Nunn League Division One North opposition – Coplestonians winning 4-0 away to Needham Market Under-23s, while Haughley United beat Haverhill Borough 3-1.

Trimley Red Devils scored a winner in time added-on to oust visitors Debenham Leisure Centre, while Beccles Town and Bungay Town both found the net five times as they knocked out Westerfield United and Sudbury Sports respectively.

The 11 winners from Saturday join holders Framlingham Town and Haverhill Rovers, who both scored eight times in their first-round ties versus Whitton United and Sporting 87 respectively last midweek, in the second round.

Also through are Kirkley & Pakefield Reserves who saw off Bildeston Rangers 4-1 a week ago on Saturday. Kirkley & Pakefield Reserves (blue shirts) and Bildeston Rangers (red shirts) are pictured above in action in that match.

The draw for the second round will be broadcast on BBC Radio Suffolk on Friday night between 6.30pm and 7pm.

Sunday was an historic day for AFC Sudbury as the club had three teams competing in the first round of this season’s MH Goals Suffolk Women’s Cup.

Two of them had big wins, but Sudbury Sports, entering for the first time, lost to Brantham Athletic, whose Reserve side also went through after a 3-2 victory over Capel Plough.

The second-round draw will be broadcast on BBC Radio Suffolk on Friday night between 6.30pm and 7pm.

First round matches also took place on Sunday in the Best Badges Sunday Cup, Shield & Trophy competitions.

AFC Bergholt required a penalty shoot-out, which they won 4-3, to get the better of Portman Rovers after a 1-1 draw in the Best Badges Suffolk Sunday Cup.

Taverners, who won last season’s Suffolk Sunday Trophy, made a winning start in this season’s Best Badges Suffolk Sunday Shield, winning 2-1 at fellow Ipswich Sunday Football League opponents Gainsborough United.

There was just one tie in the Best Badges Suffolk Sunday Trophy, with Gardeners Arms 7-2 winners at Playford.

County cup action continues on Tuesday evening with two ties in the second round of the Endeavour Automotive Suffolk Premier Cup.

Leiston, last season’s losing semi-finalists, entertain lower-league Brantham Athletic, while there is an all Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division meeting between Hadleigh United and Mildenhall Town.
