Forty teams line-up in Primary Cup ties

FORTY teams will line-up in the first round of the Suffolk Primary Cup.

FORTY teams will line-up in the first round of this season’s McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup on Saturday.

With a further 12 teams already awaiting in the second round, the Suffolk Primary Cup has the biggest entry of all the adult county cup competitions.

Among those taking part in round one are last season’s finalists – Coddenham Athletic and Gipping Gnats. Coddenham won the final 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw at Colchester United FC.

The Cod Army start their defence of the competition they won for the first-time last May away to Sporting 87 ‘A’. Gipping Gnats face an away tie as they travel to Hope Church.

Brantham Athletic Development and Coplestonians Development, last season’s losing semi-finals, both have byes in the first round.

Assington Stanley, whose run to the quarter-finals ended with a 9-8 penalty shoot-out loss to Coplestonians Development following a 1-1 draw, have home advantage against Ipswich Vale Exiles.

Cavendish (red & black striped shirts), who host Lakenheath Casuals, are pictured in action against Roman Rovers (sky blue shirts) last Saturday.

There’s just one fixture scheduled on Sunday – the outstanding second-round tie in the Best Badges Suffolk Sunday Shield between Foxhall United and Stoke by Clare, the 2020-21 losing finalists in the Suffolk Sunday Trophy.
