North Suffolk sides targeting last eight

FOUR north Suffolk sides are bidding to reach the Suffolk Senior Cup Quarter-Finals.

FOUR north Suffolk sides will be bidding to reach the CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup Quarter-Finals this weekend.

Of the quartet only Waveney, who host Bungay Town, have home advantage in Saturday afternoon’s second-round ties.

Both Kirkley & Pakefield Reserves, who are at Haughley United, and Beccles Town, who travel to Trimley Red Devils, face away trips.

You have to go back to the 2015-16 season and Waveney’s 3-2 victory over Haughley United, for the last time a team from the north of the county lifted the trophy.

Four Thurlow Nunn League Division One North sides, three of whom face Macron SIL opposition, will be aiming to make home advantage count and book their places in the last eight of this season’s competition.

Cornard United entertain reigning Senior Division champions Henley Athletic, holders Framlingham Town face East Bergholt United and Leiston U23s take on Claydon.

That leaves just two other ties – an all-Thurlow Nunn League affair between Haverhill Rovers and AFC Sudbury Reserves and an all-SIL Clash between Stowupland Falcons and Coplestonians.

AFC Sudbury Reserves’ Bobby Rea sidefoots wide of Framlingham Town goalkeeper Edyn Cummings but also the far post in last season’s final at Colchester United FC.

Sunday sees the second round matches in three of the adult men’s competitions – the Best Badges Suffolk Sunday Cup, Shield and Trophy.

Quarter-final spots are up for grabs in both the Sunday Cup and Shield, while teams will be looking to reach the third round in the Sunday Trophy.

Sunday Cup holders Moreton Hall Ferals are away to Ipswich Sunday Football League Premier Division side Fat Cat, while Kitchener Taverners, who won the competition in each of the two previous seasons, host Occold.

The stand-out tie in the Sunday Shield is a repeat of West Suffolk Wolves versus Taverners, who met in the semi-finals of last season’s Best Badges Suffolk Sunday Trophy.

West Suffolk Wolves, who have home advantage, will be looking to avenge their 4-3 defeat in a penalty shoot-out following a 2-2 draw.

There are still 32 teams left in the Sunday Trophy, including last season’s runners-up AFC Dragonfly, who play in Division Three of the Premier Logos Bury & District Sunday League. They travel to BDSL Division Four side Inter Moreton Hall Youth.
