TWO first-round ties in the Parkers Pitches Suffolk Junior Cup on Saturday were settled on penalties.

Capel Plough edged past Elmswell 5-4 on spot kicks following a 2-2 draw, while Thurlow progressed 4-3 on penalties at the expense of Needham Market Phoenix after a 1-1 draw.

There were clear-cut wins for Kesgrave Kestrels (7-0 at home to Stonham Aspal) and Stanton (4-0 at Bardwell Sports) while Great Blakenham Chequers were 3-1 winners at Wenhaston United.

The draw for the second round will be broadcast on BBC Radio Suffolk between 6.30pm ad 7pm on Friday.

Leiston U23s will be at home to Claydon in the second round of this season’s CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup, after beating Brandon Town 2-1 in Saturday’s outstanding first-round tie.

And Brantham Athletic U23s will travel to Framlingham Town in round two of the Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup following their 1-0 win against Bury Town U23s on Saturday.

Sunday saw the start of the Girls’ Youth Cups under the new sponsorship of Videndum.
