Brantham's chance to avenge cup exit

IT’S the second round of both the Suffolk Primary and Women’s Cups this weekend.

BRANTHAM Athletic ‘A’ have a chance to avenge last season’s exit in the McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup on Saturday.

Playing last season as Brantham Athletic Development, the Blue Imps lost 4-2 to eventual champions Coddenham Athletic in the last four.

Brantham Athletic ‘A’ have home advantage this time as they host the holders.

Coplestonians Development were last season’s other losing semi-finalists, going down 4-0 to Gipping Gnats in their tie.

They will look to stay on course in this season’s competition by beating Bramford United.

Coplestonians Development currently top Division Four of the Macron SIL with a perfect record – six wins from six matches – and will be favourites to progress against opponents sitting seventh in Division Six.

Ipswich Vale Exiles are another side with an unblemished record so far, after reeling off seven straight wins, but will have to negotiate their way past Hadleigh Brettsiders, who are third in their league.

Thurston Reserves also have chalked up maximum points from their opening six league games, but will be travelling into the unknown when they face Cambridgeshire County League 3A hosts Haverhill Town.

Haverhill Town (sky blue shirts) are pictured above in action against Thaxted Rangers Reserves (navy blue shirts) in a league game.

Ipswich side Unity, who are second in Division Four of the SIL, face a tricky trip across town to Achilles Reserves, ninth in Division Five.

It’s also the second round of the MH Goals Suffolk Women’s Cup on Sunday afternoon.

Holders Needham Market, who next weekend travel to face West Bromwich Albion in the Women’s FA Cup, take on Beccles Town Development.

Needham Market Reserves also have a home tie – a local derby versus Bacton United 89.

AFC Sudbury also have both their first team and Reserves in action – the first team host AFC Kesgrave, while their Reserves travel to Framlingham Town, while Brantham Athletic take on their own Reserve side.
