Last-16 place in cup beckoning for clubs

A LAST-16 place in the Suffolk Junior Cup beckons for 28 clubs on Saturday.

A LAST-16 place in the Parkers Pitches Suffolk Junior Cup beckons for 28 clubs on Saturday.

There are 14 second-round ties taking place on Saturday afternoon, with both last season’s finalists still in contention to lift the cup at the end of the season.

AFC Kesgrave will welcome north Suffolk side Kessingland, who sit second bottom of the Lowestoft & District League Division One without a win from seven starts this season.

In stark contrast to that Mutford & Wrentham, last season’s runners-up, have won seven out of their nine fixtures so far and top Division Two of the Fosters Solicitors Anglian Combination.

Mutford & Wrentham welcome Spexhall Huntsman & Hounds, who sit in mid-table in Lowestoft & District League Division One.

Beccles Caxton, who currently occupy seventh place in the same division as Mutford & Wrentham, travel to Saxmundham Sports, who are fourth in Division One of the Macron SIL – level on points and just one place below AFC Kesgrave.

Beccles Caxton (green & white striped shirts) are pictured in action versus Wymondham Town (red & black shirts) last season.

SIL Division One Cockfield United (8th) entertain fellow west Suffolk side Stanton (10th), while league leaders Thurston travel to Hundon, who are currently propping up Senior A of the Cambridgeshire County League.

Somersham, who sit second behind Thurston, travel to north Suffolk to take on Bungay Town U23s, who are yet to register a victory in ten attempts in Division One of the Lowestoft & District League.

One of the two remaining second-round ties in this season’s Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup is also taking place on Saturday afternoon as Halesworth Town Reserves host Cornard United Reserves.

The draw for the quarter-finals will be broadcast on BBC Radio Suffolk at 6.30pm on Friday.

On Sunday it’s the second round matches in the Videndum Suffolk Girls Under-12 Cup plus the latest group games in the Videndum Suffolk Girls Under-16 Cup.

There are also five second-round fixtures that have been re-arranged in the Portable Space Suffolk Mixed Suffolk U12, U13 and U14 Cups after being postponed last weekend.
