Gipping Gnats aim to relish every moment

GIPPING Gnats will ‘relish every moment’ of the Suffolk Primary Cup Final.

GIPPING Gnats manager Jason Hiskey says his side will ‘relish every moment’ of the McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup Final.

The Macron SIL Division Four runners-up meet Coddenham Athletic, who have just finished third in Division Five, in Thursday’s final at Colchester United FC, kick-off 7.30pm – the first of five Suffolk County Cup finals at the JobServe Community Stadium in the coming week.

Hiskey said: “For teams like us these occasions create lifelong memories. We will relish every moment but come 7.30pm our focus will be 100 per cent on football and winning the cup.”

Gipping Gnats have been in good form in the competition so far this season, scoring 17 times in five ties to reach their first ever county cup final.

Hiskey said: “We have had a determination and belief that we would win it this year since getting knocked out in the quarter-finals last year, losing to a late goal from the eventual cup winners Bardwell Sports.

“Yes, we have been in good form in the competition this season scoring 17 goals. We know we have plenty of goals in us so hopefully we can get a few in the final and lift the trophy.”

Despite this, Hiskey said he does not consider that his side will be entering the final as favourites.

He continued: “Some may see us as favourites, but I would say the teams are too closely matched for there to be a clear favourite.

“Although we are a league above there is very little between the top teams in Division Five and us, so we are expecting a very even game.

“We don't know too much about Coddenham but they seem to be a very similar team to us in their style of play. They have had a great season reaching two cup finals, already winning one of them. We know we will have to be at our best to overcome them.”

Hiskey said his players are looking forward to playing at a Football League ground.

“The main thing we are looking forward to is the venue and the occasion. I know Suffolk FA have worked very hard to get this amazing venue and the organisation has been first class.

“On behalf of the players and club officials I would like to thank Suffolk FA, Colchester United FC and cup sponsors McDonalds for giving us this opportunity,” he added.
