FRIDAY night’s Portable Space Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup final was postponed after a heavy downpour before kick-off.

A good-sized crowd had assembled to see Beccles Town Reserves take on Hadleigh United Reserves in the final at the Watson & Hillhouse Victory Road Stadium, home of Leiston FC.

There was little sign of what was to come an hour before the scheduled 7.45pm kick-off, but as the start time drew closer, the heavens then opened.

The kick-off was delayed 15 minutes in the hope that the rain would ease off.

However, with large puddles starting to form on the pitch, referee Carl Evans had no option other than to call off the final soon after 8pm. 

It is hoped to re-arrange the match in the next fortnight.

Spectators who purchased tickets online will receive a refund.
