Somersham Reserves bid to cause an upset
SOMERSHAM Reserves will be aiming to cause an upset in the McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup Quarter-Finals on Saturday.
The Macron SIL Division Six side have a home tie versus Gipping Gnats of SIL Division Four.
Somersham Reserves won 5-4 on penalties following a 2-2 draw with AFC Whitton in the previous round, while their opponents have scored nine goals in their three ties so far.
Three other SIL Division Four sides are also in last-eight action.
Walsham-le-Willows ‘A’ will entertain SIL Division Five side Coddenham Athletic, who dumped Division Three Laxfield out of the competition in the previous round. Coddenham Athletic (red & black striped shirts) are pictured above in action against Laxfield (green & black shirts) during their 3-0 victory.
Essex & Suffolk Border League sides have home advantage in the two other ties – Division Five Assington Stanley, playing in the Primary Cup for the first time, face Coplestonians ‘A’, while Division Three Brantham Athletic ‘A’ take on Framlingham Town ‘A’.
The semi-final draw will be announced on BBC Radio Suffolk's Non-League Hour between 8pm and 9pm next Thursday.
New boys on the block AFC Sudbury will be bidding to knock-out seasoned campaigners Woodbridge Town in the Best Badges Suffolk Veterans’ Cup on Sunday.
Woodbridge Town had appeared in seven consecutive finals from the 2014-15 season onwards until last season, winning twice – back-to-back successes in the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons.
AFC Sudbury have entered the competition for the first time this season and knocked out Whitton United, winners for the past four seasons, in the previous round.
Haverhill Rovers, the 2013-14 winners, entertain Aldeburgh Town, while last season’s runners-up Lowestoft Town welcome Ipswich-based Foxhall Town.
Neither of the away sides have previously reached a final and nor have the other two teams who complete the quarter-final line-up – Ipswich Wanderers and Trimley Sports & Social Club Reserves.
The semi-final draw will be announced next Thursday on BBC Radio Suffolk's Non-League Hour between 8pm and 9pm.
The Suffolk Boys’ Youth Cup and Plate competitions also reach the quarter-final stages this weekend, with a host of matches scheduled for Sunday morning.
