Thurston maintain run in Junior Cup
THURSTON go marching on in the Parkers Pitches Suffolk Junior Cup.
The Macron SIL Division Two club defeated Division One Bacton United 89 on Saturday to book their place in this season’s quarter-finals.
Thurston, who are yet to taste defeat in any competition this season, won 4-1 away against the 2016-17 winners.
The club’s only previous final appearance saw them lose 3-2 to Tuddenham Rovers in the 1997-98 season, but they are now just two wins away from emulating that achievement.
The three other SIL Division Two sides involved in the third round all bowed out – Kesgrave Kestrels lost 2-1 at Lakenheath Casuals, Ipswich Athletic went down 5-0 at Stanton, while Saxmundham Sports lost 1-0 at home to Cockfield United.
Three of last season’s four semi-finalists are also through to the last eight.
Cavendish (4-2 at Spexhall Huntsman & Hounds) and Mutford & Wrentham (4-0 at Bramford Road Old Boys) both won their ties to join Stowupland Falcons, who had already secured their spot.
The only one of last season’s semi-finalists not to make it through are SIL Division One leaders Tattingstone United, who lost 3-0 at ninth-placed AFC Kesgrave.
The draw for the quarter-finals will be broadcast on BBC Radio Suffolk during their Saturday afternoon sports programme.
