Falcons step up bid for a cup hat-trick

STOWUPLAND Falcons can take a step nearer a Suffolk Junior Cup hat-trick on Saturday.

STOWUPLAND Falcons can take a step nearer a Parkers Pitches Suffolk Junior Cup hat-trick on Saturday.

The Macron SIL Division One side have won the competition in each of the last two seasons, defeating Mutford & Wrentham on both occasions.

The Falcons will be aiming to become the first team to book their place in the last eight of this season’s competition when they travel to Somersham on Saturday afternoon.

A close match is expected, Somersham sitting second in SIL Division One – two places and one point ahead of their visitors, who have a game in hand in the race for promotion. Somersham (yellow shirts) are pictured above in action against Bacton United 89 (green & red quartered shirts) in SIL Division One.

The tie is the only one scheduled in the competition this weekend, with the seven other ties all due to take place a week on Saturday.

Somersham will be looking to emulate the performance of their Reserve side, who became the first this season to reach the quarter-finals of the McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup.

The remaining seven ties are all taking place on Saturday afternoon, including Brantham Athletic ‘A’ travelling to Unity, rather than Kirton Athletic Reserves.

The latter have been removed from the competition after fielding four ineligible players in last Saturday’s 3-0 victory.

Sunday sees the remaining Best Badges Suffolk Sunday Trophy Quarter-Final as Taverners host Bedfield for the right to face West Suffolk Wolves in the final four.

There’s also the outstanding Best Badges Suffolk Veterans’ Cup Second Round match involving Stowupland Falcons and Ipswich Vale Exiles on Sunday afternoon.

The winners will entertain Woodbridge Town in the third round, with the winners of that tie welcoming AFC Sudbury in the quarter-finals.

There was one county cup match in midweek – Portable Space Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup holders Walsham-le-Willows Reserves losing 5-1 at Hadleigh United Reserves.

Hadleigh United Reserves will now travel to Stowmarket Town Reserves in the quarter-finals
