West Suffolk teams hold upper the hand
WEST Suffolk sides held the upper hand in the Best Badges Suffolk Sunday Cup Quarter-Finals.
Teams from the Bury & District Sunday League came out on top against their Ipswich Sunday Football League opponents in three of Sunday’s four quarter-finals.
The only ISFL side to reach the final four were Borussia Martlesham, who edged past BDSL Division One side Barrow 2-1.
Moreton Hall Ferals were 12-2 winners against Playford, Mellis saw off Trimley Raiders 6-3 and Elmswell Athletic went through 4-3 on penalties following a 3-3 draw with Portman Rovers. There were big away wins for Rushmere & Diamonds and Wamil Wasps in the last eight of the Best Badges Suffolk Sunday Shield.
Rushmere & Diamonds won 6-1 at last season’s Suffolk Sunday Trophy runners-up AFC Claydon and Wamil Wasps overcame Stoke-by-Clare 4-1 in a repeat of the 2020-21 Trophy final.
Bacton United 89, who lifted the Trophy last season, beat Bury Town Bisons 2-0, while Westbourne Warriors went through 5-1 against Elmsett United.
There was a convincing 6-1 success for Stowupland Falcons at home to Coldham Hall in the quarter-finals of the Best Badges Suffolk Sunday Trophy, while West Suffolk Wolves shaded a penalty shoot-out 5-4 at Panthers following a 3-3 draw.
The semi-final draws for all three competitions will be broadcast simultaneously on the Non-League Hour on BBC Radio Suffolk and via the Suffolk FA Twitter feed on Thursday between 8pm and 9pm.
In the third round of the Best Badges Suffolk Veterans’ Cup, Aldeburgh won 8-1 at Ipswich Revolution and will now travel to Haverhill Rovers in the last eight.
Foxhall Town will travel to Lowestoft Town in the quarter-finals after Mildenhall Town withdrew.
Haughley United Reserves won 2-1 at home to Whitton United Reserves in the second round of this season’s Portable Space Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup and will now travel to Claydon Reserves in the quarter-finals.
Kirton Athletic Reserves defeated 3-0 in the second round of the McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup, and Somersham Reserves went through 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 draw with AFC Whitton.
There were also a raft of Suffolk Boys’ Cup and Plate matches that took place on Sunday.
