Bungay reach first Women's Cup Final

BUNGAY Town will play in their first-ever MH Goals Suffolk Women’s Cup Final.

MANAGER Darren Renwick said it would take a while to sink in after Bungay Town reached their first-ever MH Goals Suffolk Women’s Cup Final.

Bungay Town beat Brett Vale 2-0 in Sunday’s re-arranged semi-final at Walsham-le-Willows FC to set up a final versus Needham Market.

Zoe Cossey put Bungay Town ahead after 33 minutes, displaying good close control to beat a couple of players before finding the top corner, and then also won the penalty when she was tripped in the 57th minute. Selina Rowland scored from the spot.

Bungay Town manager Darren Renwick said: “We had a game plan and I can’t fault our players, who were brilliant from start to finish.

“It was a tough game because Brett Vale are a very good side and they pushed us all the way over the 90 minutes, but I think we deserved to win. We had the lion’s share of the possession, although we didn’t create too many chances.

“All credit to them as they were also a nice bunch – players and management – and the game was played in a really good spirit. We wish them all the best for the rest of the season."

Renwick continued: “As a management team we couldn’t be more proud of the girls as they gave it their all.

“It is going to take a while for it to sink in as it is the first time the club have ever reached the final.

“We mentioned that fact in the build up without putting too much pressure on them so they could enjoy the game and the occasion, and now we have done so it is an unbelievable feeling to reach the final.

“We know Needham Market are a very good side who play at a higher level than us, but we will go out there to enjoy the occasion whatever the result

Brett Vale manager Andy Parton said: “It was a well-fought match between two strong teams. With a depleted squad due to injuries, we had several players playing out of position, but the players gave everything.

“Further injuries to key players picked up during the match and a disallowed goal in the second-half when we were on top summed up a frustrating day.

“We send our best wishes to Bungay for the final.”
