Goals aplenty in Junior Cup ties

TWO teams hit double figures away from home in the Suffolk Junior Cup on Saturday.

TWO teams hit double figures away from home in the Parkers Pitches Suffolk Junior Cup on Saturday.

Lakenheath Casuals were 10-0 winners at Stonham Aspal, while holders Stowupland Falcons went one better at Waveney ‘A’ to book their place in the last 16 of this season’s competition.

There were goals aplenty in the 16 ties – a total of 88 at an average of 5.5 goals per game.

Thurston put nine goals past Puddlebrook 68, while two teams each scored six times – Stanton were 6-1 winners at home to Elmswell and Bacton United 89 triumphed 6-2 at Achilles.

Mutford & Wrentham, runners-up to Stowupland Falcons in each of the last two seasons, were 5-0 winners at home to Capel Plough, while Ipswich Athletic also went nap, defeating Carlton Colville Town 5-2.

Two ties went to penalties, Hundon progressing 5-3 at the expense of visitors Cavendish following a 3-3 draw, while Tattingstone United emerged 4-2 winners after drawing 1-1 at Tuddenham Rovers.

The draw for the third round will be broadcast on BBC Radio Suffolk’s Non-League Hour between 8pm and 9pm on Thursday.

Holders AFC Sudbury were knocked out by Needham Market in an eight-goal thriller in the MH Goals Suffolk Women’s Cup on Sunday.

Visitors AFC Sudbury led the second-round tie 3-2 at half-time, but Needham Market scored three times in the second period to go through.

East Bergholt United defeated fellow Eastern Region Women’s Football League Division One side Haverhill Rovers 2-0 to reach the last eight, and Brett Vale, losing finalists in 2018-19, beat Woodbridge Town 3-0.

Bungay Town were 7-0 winners at Halesworth Town, while Stowupland Falcons scored the only goal of the game to go through against Needham Market Reserves.

The draw for the third round will be broadcast simultaneously on BBC Radio Suffolk’s Non-League Hour between 8pm and 9pm on Thursday night and via the Suffolk FA Twitter feed.
