Senior Cup fightback from Framlingham
FRAMLINGHAM Town had to come from behind to reach the quarter-finals of this season’s CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup.
The Castlemen trailed 1-0 at the interval away to Macron SIL Senior Division side East Bergholt United in Saturday’s second-round tie.
Framlingham, who entered the match as leaders of Thurlow Nunn League Division One North, fell behind after just five minutes to an Aaron Greenwood goal.
However, second-half strikes from Joe Berry, Tom Humphrey and Josh Lucraft saw Framlingham safely through to the last eight of this season’s competition. Humphrey (red shirt, nearest to the goal) is pictured scoring Framlingham's second goal. Photograph: Daryl Butcher
They were one of three of Thurlow Nunn League Division One North sides to overcome SIL opposition away from home – AFC Sudbury Reserves won 2-1 at Sporting 87 and Haverhill Borough 3-0 at Leiston St Margarets.
The only SIL side to overcome Thurlow Nunn League opposition were Halesworth Town, who were 3-0 winners away to Needham Market Under-23s.
The two all-SIL ties were both won by the away sides – Claydon overcame Haughley United 3-0 and Ransomes Sports went through 4-3 on penalties after Wickham Market fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2.
The day’s other two ties resulted in comfortable wins for Beccles Town (4-0 at home to Kirkley & Pakefield Reserves) and Henley Athletic (4-1 away to Brandon Town).
The draw for the quarter-finals will be broadcast on BBC Radio Suffolk during the Non-League Hour between 8pm and 9pm on Thursday night.
Six sides have confirmed their places in the last eight of this season’s Veo Suffolk Boys’ Under-18 Midweek Cup.
Last Thursday’s second-round ties saw big home wins for both holders AFC Sudbury and Needham Market.
The Beccles Town versus Cornard United tie, which was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, has been re-arranged for this Thursday when the draw will also be broadcast on BBC Radio Suffolk.
