Away teams among goals in Primary Cup

FOUR away teams scored four or more goals in the Suffolk Primary Cup on Saturday.

FOUR away teams scored four or more goals in the McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup First Round on Saturday.

All four – Lakenheath Casuals AFC, Laxfield, Occold and Sporting 87 ‘A’ – won to reach the second round.

Laxfield, the 2020-21 runners-up, won 7-2 away to Hundon Reserves and there were also nine goals as Lakenheath Casuals AFC won a thriller 5-4 at hosts Hadleigh United Brettsiders.

Sporting 87 ‘A’ had a more comfortable passage into round two, winning 8-2 at Elmswell Reserves while Occold went through 4-0 at Normanston Magpies.

Two matches were settled on penalty shoot-outs, Coddenham Athletic winning 3-0 after a 2-2 draw at Spexhall Huntsman & Hounds Reserves, and Samuels progressing 7-6 on spot kicks after they shared four goals at Needham Market Phoenix.

The second-round draw will be announced via the Suffolk FA website and social media feeds at 1pm on Tuesday.

The wet weather played havoc with the Suffolk Boys’ Cups Second Round ties that were taking place on Sunday.

A total of 14 matches across the five age groups were postponed and a further three were abandoned. The third-round draws will not take place until after the rescheduled ties have taken place on Sunday, November 20th.

The first of this week’s second-round ties in the Veo Suffolk Boys Under-18 Midweek Cup takes place on Tuesday evening when Bungay Town host Brantham Athletic.

The remaining seven matches are all scheduled for Thursday evening and include holders AFC Sudbury at home to Walsham-le-Willows, the side they defeated in both the 2016-17 and 2018-19 finals.

Leiston, the 2020-21 runners-up, travel to Lowestoft to face AFC Royals and Haverhill Rovers entertain Ipswich Town U16s, who lost 3-2 to AFC Sudbury in last season’s final.
