THE road to this season’s McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup starts in earnest on Saturday.

Two ties took place last weekend, with a further 17 taking place on Saturday.

Both first-round matches played last weekend resulted in 1-0 away wins for Assington Stanley at Stanton Reserves and AFC Whitton at Capel Plough Reserves.

With 13 sides also through to round two after 11 received byes plus two walkover wins in the first round, a place in the final 32 awaits this weekend’s winners.

Neither of last season’s finalists – Bardwell Sports nor Kesgrave Kestrels – are involved in this season’s competition, and nor are Wickham Market Reserves who lost on penalties in the semi-finals.

That means only Framlingham Town ‘A’, who have a home tie versus Cockfield United Reserves, remain to contest this season’s competition from last season’s final four.

On Sunday morning it is the second round of this season’s Suffolk Boys’ county cup competitions, with matches at U12, U13, U14, U15 and U16 level.
