SUFFOLK FA are launching a new Summer Futsal League to take place prior to the 2022-23 season for transition age groups.
The new league will be for adult male players aged between 16 and 25 and will take place at Ipswich School Sports Centre starting on Monday, 18th July from 6pm to 8pm.
The league is looking for eight teams to join and be part of the inaugural Summer Futsal League. Teams can be affiliated club teams or a group of friends wanting to start their season off by playing Futsal.
Suffolk FA Football Development Officer (Retention) James Morley said: “Futsal is traditionally played indoors during the winter months of the season to provide a different format of football and to help provide guaranteed football while the weather might affect fixtures on grass.
“But we have organised our summer league to be played outdoors on a hard court to take advantage of the summer weather and provide an experience of Futsal and pre-season fixtures to prepare for the new season.
“This is still incorporating the fundamentals of Futsal by playing on a hard surface, using a Futsal ball, playing with the Futsal Laws of the Game and Playing to Lines and not walls.”
The matches will take place at Ipswich School Sports Centre, The Street, Rushmere St Andrews, Ipswich, IP5 1DE from 6pm-8pm on the following provisional dates:
Monday, July 18th, Monday July 25th, Monday, August 1st, Thursday August 4th, Monday, August 8th, Monday, August 15th, Monday, August 22nd.
Squads will be limited to a maximum of 14 adult male players aged 16-25 years-old per team, with the cost £25 per team per night. The cost will cover venue hire, equipment, trophies and insurance.
James continued: “These dates will depend on how many teams we have sign up for the league, but if we get the full quota, we will have these dates.
“All games will either kick-off at 6.05pm or 7.05pm. They will be 20 minutes each way with a five-minute half-time.
“It will cost £25 per team per week to participate in the league. Money is to be paid prior to each of the fixtures per week, via cash or bank transfer to Suffolk FA.
“If you can’t fulfil a fixture, the game will be awarded to the opposition, but you will still be charged with a commitment made at the start of the season to participate throughout. Teams’ participation in the league will be on a first come, first served basis.”
The sign-up window will close on Monday, July 4th at 5pm. Information for the league will then be provided to those teams participating in the league by July 8th in preparation of the first date on the July 18th.
