EAST Bergholt United knocked out higher-league Haverhill Borough in the CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup on Saturday.

The Macron SIL Senior Division side defeated their Thurlow Nunn League Division One South visitors 2-1 at Gandish Road.

They were the only one of four SIL sides to get the better of Thurlow Nunn League opposition, with AFC Sudbury Reserves, Debenham Leisure Centre and Ipswich Wanderers all knocking out SIL sides.

Both Sudbury sides in this season’s competition progressed, with Sudbury Sports, who play in the Essex & Suffolk Border League Premier Division, triumphing 3-1 at Coplestonians.

However, Felixstowe & Walton United Reserves of the ESBL were humbled 6-2 at SIL opponents Old Newton United.

Waveney, the 2015-16 winners, returned from Brandon Town with a 2-1 victory, while fellow Anglian Combination Premier Division outfit Beccles Town won 2-1 at Haughley United.

BROB beat Ipswich Athletic, the 2014-15 winners, 6-1 and will now entertain holders Stowupland Falcons.

Saxmundham Sports, meanwhile, required penalties before knocking out Grundisburgh, and will now travel to last season’s runners-up Mutford & Wrentham in round three.

Woodbridge Town Reserves, winners of the Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup in each of the past two seasons, are out of this season’s competition. They lost 4-1 at home to Framlingham Town Reserves.

There were also wins for Stowmarket Town Reserves and Coplestonians Reserves against Hadleigh United Reserve and Westerfield United Reserves respectively.

Six ties were completed in the Suffolk Sunday Trophy, with Bacton United 89 finding the net eight times away to Northam Celtic.
