IPSWICH Town overpowered Needham Market to record a seventh straight HomeStore Self Storage Suffolk Women’s Cup Final win.
They won 6-0 in Sunday’s final at AFC Sudbury, and the margin could have been even greater but for the woodwork and some great goalkeeping from Needham’s Dani Clarke.
Goals from Zoe Barratt (2), Lucy O’Brien, Sarah Brasero, Maddie Biggs ands Liv Bilson gave Ipswich Town their eleventh win overall in the competition and ninth in the last ten seasons.
Biggs saw a shot in the 19th minute tipped onto the crossbar, before Ipswich broke the deadlock three minutes later, O’Brien controlling and laying off to Barratt to fire home following a cross from the right.
Clarke then tipped a Barratt cross against the crossbar and the ball dropped to O’Brien who turned smartly and brought an equally good save from the keeper.
However, O’Brien got on the scoresheet after 34 minutes, shooting home after her first effort had been saved by Clarke.
It took Ipswich until the 57th minute to breach Needham’s defence for a third time, Barratt sweeping home a right-wing cross by Barratt.
Substitute Sarah Brasero bundled home the fourth in the 65th minute after Needham failed to clear a cross from the right.
Seven minutes later it was 5-0 as Maddie Biggs rifled home a powerful 20-yard shot after 72 minutes and Liv Bilson struck the sixth in the 86th minute after Needham were unable to clear a corner.
There was still time for Barratt to thump a drive against the upright as the match entered injury time. Ipswich players are pictured above celebrating with the cup. Photograph: Paul Voller
