SUFFOLK FA are staging a Euro 2020 Disability Festival on Sunday.

SUFFOLK FA are staging a Euro 2020 Disability Festival on Sunday.

The festival, which is being sponsored by Blue Square Solutions Ltd, is taking place on the new 3G football surface at Copleston High School in Ipswich.

Coplestonians FC, who are based at the school, have agreed to be the home for The Wots Up iCAN football league this season.

Sunday’s festival will be the first of several to be held there during the 2021-22 season.

The festival will start at 11am, with 15 teams competing across three divisions – Championship, League 1 & League 2.

The teams involved in Sunday’s competition will be Chelmsford City, Coplestonians, Healthy 4 Life (seven teams), ITFC Community, Needham Market, Waveney (two teams) and Wot’s Up Warriors (two teams).

Suffolk FA Inclusive Football Development Officer Kirsty Smith said: “We are delighted to be delivering our first disability football festival in nearly two years. It’s been a long time coming and I know everyone involved is super excited about it!

“Personally, these events are my favourite to deliver as all the teams are brilliant, they play the game in the right way with the right temperament, and always play with smiles on their faces – it’s like one big family environment!

“Numbers are slightly down on normal as some teams and players are still wary about coming back to football so soon.

“However, we are sure that when the new season kicks-off around September / October time all teams will be back playing and competing again.

“Coplestonians are kindly providing a BBQ and an ice cream van for Sunday’s event and the weather is looking good as well so it should be a fantastic day for all involved.”

Darryl Tate, Managing Director of Blue Square Solutions Ltd, said: “We are so happy to be supporting this event.

“The last 18 months have been so hard for everyone but football is a vessel to bring people together from all different backgrounds and abilities and to have fun. We are very proud to be involved.”
