Schools’ 2020-21 cups are cancelled
ALL this season’s Suffolk Inter-School County Cup competitions have been cancelled.
Suffolk County Schools' FA Management Committee made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020-21 competitions, but given the current situation felt there was no real alternative.
SCSFA Chair Robert Peace said: “With the restrictions already faced during this academic year and an uncertain future over the next few months, we have made the decision to cancel all inter-school competitions for 2020-21.
“Given the excellent participation levels across all age groups we’ve experienced in recent years, and the continued importance of young people having the opportunity to play for a team of peers representing their school against another, to have to write-off a whole year is very frustrating.
“But quite rightly the biggest priority is maintaining safety and we feel it is important schools can focus on a full and safe return to classroom provision.
“SCSFA are already planning for the 2021-22 academic year and look forward to providing news and updates in the near future.”
During the current academic year, if there is an opportunity and a desire to play inter-school matches once national and local restrictions allow, schools will be at liberty to arrange friendly/localised fixtures and SCSFA will be working with relevant bodies to provide guidance around this.
Peace added that SCSFA would like to thank Emirates Logistics for their continued support and sponsorship during this difficult period and look forward to continuing the partnership when football returns.
SCSFA are awaiting further guidance from South-East England Schools’ FA before making an announcement on representative football for the boys’ and girls’ teams.
