JUST getting to the final of the 2019-20 Days Sports Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup Final is a ‘bonus’ for Woodbridge Town.
So says the Woodbridge Town Reserves’ manager Aren Howell, who takes charge of a side in the final for the third time when they face Beccles Town Reserves on Monday at Lowestoft Town FC, kick-off 7.30pm.
Howell suffered a 1-0 loss with Ipswich Wanderers to Haverhill Rovers in 2007-08, before leading Felixstowe & Walton United to a 2-0 victory over Stowmarket Town in the 2017-18 final.
Woodbridge Town, who play in the Thurlow Nunn Reserve League, reached the final the previous season, going down 2-1 to Stowmarket Town.
Howell said: “Getting to the final is a bonus for Woodbridge – the club just want as many young players as possible playing Reserve team football.”
“Winning the final would be a big achievement for me as we have such a young team and getting to the final in their first season is great for them.”
Howell, who admitted he knows nothing about their Anglian Combination Division Three opponents, said his squad had picked up some injuries in pre-season and had players unavailable as they are working away.
Beccles Town Reserves manager Paul Storey said the club are looking forward to playing in their first Days Sports Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup Final.
He said: “The football club and everyone involved are really looking forward to it, especially as it’s the first time we have been in the final.
“The club is very well supported so I would like to think we would have lots of support, but in the current climate and what’s going on who knows?”
Storey, who is hoping to have a full-strength squad to select from, added: “I don’t know anything about Woodbridge, but I do know from playing against them over the years they will be a very good side.”
