Woodbridge in sixth successive cup final

WOODBRIDGE Town will line-up in their sixth successive Suffolk Veterans’ Cup Final on Sunday.

WOODBRIDGE Town will line-up in their sixth successive Suffolk Veterans’ Cup Final this weekend.

The Woodpeckers will face Whitton United in the delayed 2019-20 final at Humber Doucy Lane, home of Ipswich Wanderers FC, on Sunday, kick-off 2.30pm.

The final is a repeat of last season’s which saw Whitton United, whose side included a trio of ex-Ipswich Town players in Kieron Dyer, Titus Bramble and Carlos Edwards, win 4-1 on ‘Super Sunday’ at Needham Market FC.

Woodbridge have lost three of their previous finals, twice to Bury Town as well as Whitton, but won the other two, defeating Bury Town at the third attempt and then following that with victory over AFC Hoxne.

Whitton had only previously appeared in one final, losing 3-2 to Leiston in the 2011-12 season.

Woodbridge defeated Cockfield United 6-0 to reach the final, while Whitton beat Bury Town 4-0 in their last-four tie.

Action is pictured above from last season’s final with Whitton United (green & white striped shirts) on the attack against Woodbridge Town (black & white striped shirts) on the main pitch at Bloomfields.
