The first of this season’s last-eight ties get under way this weekend, with three ties in the CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup on Saturday and four in the Suffolk Sunday Cup the following day.

All three of the CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup matches offer up the opportunity for Macron SIL Senior Division sides to put one over on higher-league Thurlow Nunn League Division One opponents.

Crane Sports, who are enjoying a fine season in the SIL and remain undefeated after 15 matches, host Leiston Reserves at Greshams and will be favourites to progress after seeing off Lakenheath 5-1 in the previous round.

However, both Coplestonians and Old Newton United are on the road at Debenham Leisure Centre and Ipswich Wanderers respectively, who will both be playing at home for the third tie in a row.

Debenham LC required penalties to beat Brantham Athletic Reserves 4-2 following a goalless draw in round one, before disposing of Bourne Vale United 5-2.

Coplestonians were 5-2 winners versus Beccles Town, before edging past Needham Market Reserves 2-1, and this could be another close match.

Ipswich Wanderers almost fell at the first hurdle, but two late goals saw them recover to defeat Claydon 2-1, before they put out AFC Sudbury Reserves 2-0.

Opponents Old Newton United registered a 3-1 win at home to Waveney in the first round before thumping last season’s losing finalists Cornard United 4-0.

Playing in the competition for the first time in several seasons following their promotion back to the Senior Division, Old Newton will view victory at Wanderers as a considerable scalp.

The remaining tie - Henley Athletic versus Ipswich Town Under-18s - will take place on Saturday, March 7th, with a 12 noon kick-off at Henley Community Centre.

The semi-final draw will be filmed and broadcast live on BBC Radio Suffolk’s Thursday Night Sports Social programme on February 6th from 8.30pm onwards.

Players from Achilles (red & black shirts) and Cornard United (blue shirts) are pictured before last season’s final at Portman Road which Achilles won 4-3.

Attention switches to the Suffolk Sunday Cup the following day which include two West versus East Suffolk derbies.

Holders Gym United entertain Moreton Hall Youth 96, who sit two places and one point below them in the Bury & District Sunday League.

Brandon Town Community currently top the BDSL with ten wins and one draws from their 11 fixtures so far. They entertain Holbrook Swan, who are third in the Ipswich Sunday Football League.

Borussia Martlesham, who occupy second spot above them, travel to BDSL side Tostock Pirates, who were last season’s runners-up

The other tie is an all ISFL affair, with second-from-bottom Pauls Athletic hosting runaway leaders Kitchener Taverners.

The semi-final draw will be filmed and broadcast live on BBC Radio Suffolk’s Thursday Night Sports Social programme on February 6th from 8.30pm onwards.
