New Rushmere Golf Club partnership
SUFFOLK FA and Rushmere Golf Club have formed an innovative new partnership.
In a bid to attract new members, Rushmere Golf Club are offering a special membership deal to any player, club or league official or referee affiliated to Suffolk FA.
The membership offer runs from April 1st until September 30th and costs £360 – less than half the price of a normal adult seven-day membership.
As part of the agreement the club, whose membership already includes a good number of former non-league footballers and a handful of ex-Ipswich Town players, will sponsor the Suffolk Sunday Cup.
The competition will be known as the Rushmere Golf Club Suffolk Sunday Cup for the remainder of this season and the 2020-21 season.
Steve Potts, who used to manage both Grundisburgh and Felixstowe & Walton United Football Clubs, is now the Rushmere Golf Club Chairman.
Potts, the only SIL manager to ever win the treble of Senior Division, League Cup and Suffolk Senior Cup and who also led the Seasiders to promotion from Division One of the Eastern Counties League, said: “My aim has always been to create a constant flow of new playing members for Rushmere Golf Club to ensure its future and its longevity.”
Bob Tawell, who celebrates 20 years as Rushmere Golf Club General Manager in May, was a referee for 20 years and also a member of the Earl Soham Victoria management team when they won the Carlsberg Pub Cup at Wembley in 2000.
He said: “Over those years I have made many friends in local football and a lot of those friends now play golf.
“I look forward to making new friendships and hope that the offer of membership will be of benefit to all concerned.”
Former Ipswich Town and England manager Sir Alf Ramsey used to be a member of the club, who already hold Golf Days for Achilles, Crane Sports and Ipswich Wanderers.
Richard Neal, Chief Executive of Suffolk FA, said: “This is an exciting cross-sport collaboration between Suffolk FA and one of the premier golf clubs of the county. We hope the Suffolk football community take up this offer to supplement their football participation.”
