Clubs closing in on Junior Cup Final

CLUBS are closing in on an appearance in the Suffolk Junior Cup Final.

BY SATURDAY night four clubs will be 90 minutes away from an appearance in the final of this season’s Total Football Suffolk Junior Cup.

The first of this season’s four quarter-finals is taking place at the King’s Marsh Stadium on Friday night as Sudbury Sports face Sporting 87, kick-off 7.45pm.

Both sides were in good goalscoring form in the last round, AFC Sudbury scoring eleven times without reply against Barham Athletic and Sporting 87 beating Bures United 5-3

The remaining three ties are the following afternoon, with an intriguing match-up between Bramford Road Old Boys, who sit third in Division Two of the Macron SIL, and Stanton, who are eighth in Division One.

Bramford were 2-1 winners at last season’s runners-up Bacton United 89 in round three, while visitors Stanton have progressed via penalties in each of the previous two rounds.

Ransomes Sports, leaders of SIL Division One, will be favourites to defeat AFC YourShirts, who are currently fourth in Division Two.

Likewise, Halesworth Town, who are second behind Ransomes Sports, will be fancied to dispose of Somersham, who are bottom of Division Two.

The semi-final draw will be filmed and broadcast live on next week’s BBC Radio Suffolk Thursday Night Sports Social programme from 8.30pm onwards.

Players from Bacton United 89 are pictured above receiving their runners-up medal from Keith Norton, Chairman of the Macron SIL, after last season’s 4-2 loss to Bildeston Rangers in the final at Portman Road.

There’s a busy day of action in store the following day, with the quarter finals of the Suffolk Sunday Shield plus last-eight ties in the Crown Imperial Suffolk Boys’ Cups and Plate competitions as well as the Suffolk Boys’ Under-18 Cup.

The semi-final draw for the Suffolk Sunday Cup will be filmed and broadcast live on next week’s BBC Radio Suffolk Thursday Night Sports Social programme from 8.30pm onwards.

The semi-final draws for the Crown Imperial Suffolk Boys’ Cups and Plate competitions will be announced via the Suffolk FA Twitter feed from 12.30pm on Monday.
