Three Ipswich sides reach cup last four

THREE Ipswich sides are through to the semi-finals of the Suffolk Senior Cup.

THREE Ipswich-based sides are through to the semi-finals of this season’s CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup.

Arguably the performance of the day came at Debenham LC, where Jordan Godbold netted twice as Macron SIL Senior Division side Coplestonians defeated their Thurlow Nunn Division One North hosts 5-1.

They will be joined by fellow SIL side Crane Sports, who saw off their higher-league visitors Leiston Reserves 3-0.

However, Old Newton United were unable to make it three SIL sides in this season’s semi-finals as they went down 1-0 away to Ipswich Wanderers.

Action from that match is pictured above as match-winner Josh Folkes (blue shirt, No.7) tries to close down Old Newton United (yellow shirts) players in the first half at Humber Doucy Lane.

The remaining last-eight tie will not take place until Saturday, March 7th when Henley Athletic host Ipswich Town Under-18s.

The semi-final draw will be filmed and broadcast live on this week’s BBC Radio Suffolk’s Thursday Night Sports Social programme from 8.30pm onwards.

There were 29 goals scored in the four quarter-finals ties of this season’s Suffolk Sunday Cup the following day.

Ipswich Sunday Football League leaders Kitchener Taverners proved too strong for fellow Premier Division side Pauls, romping to a 10-2 victory.

Brandon Town Community, who are top of the Bury & District Sunday League, eased past ISFL side Holbrook Swan 7-1, while holders Gym United were 5-0 winners against Moreton Hall Youth.

Making up the semi-final quartet will be Borussia Martlesham, who scored three times in the last ten minutes to come from behind and beat last season’s runners-up Tostock Pirates 3-1.

The semi-final draw will be filmed and broadcast live on BBC Radio Suffolk’s Thursday Night Sports Social programme from 8.30pm onwards.
