Sunday Cup KO for 2019-20 runners-up

BRANDON Town Community have been knocked out of the Suffolk Sunday Cup.

BRANDON Town Community have been knocked out of this season’s Rushmere Golf Club Suffolk Sunday Cup.

Last season’s runners-up were beaten 3-0 at AFC Bergholt in the second round of on Sunday.

The Bury & District Sunday League side lost 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out to Gym United following a 2-2 draw at Bury Town FC in the delayed 2019-20 final that was played in September.

But their interest in this season’s competition came to an end along with that of fellow BDSL side Wetherden, who went down 3-2 at home to Ipswich Sunday Football League visitors Felixstowe Harpers United.

Holders Whitton United were 4-1 winners in the first round of the Best Badges Suffolk Veterans’ Cup against AFC Kesgrave, after the match was switched to Whitton United.

Cornard United won Sunday’s other tie to go ahead, defeating AFC Hoxne, the 2017-18 runners-up, 5-1.

Several matches in the second round of the McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup fell victim to either the wet weather and postponements due to COVID-19 reasons.

Of the 18 ties that did go ahead only one went to a penalty shoot-out – Corton knocking out Southwold Town Reserves 4-3 on spot kicks after a 1-1 draw.

Elsewhere there were big wins for Sporting 87 Reserves, Grundisburgh Reserves, Waveney AFC, Stage and Hope Church, who all scored five or more goals.
