Ceremony to honour grassroots heroes

UNSUNG heroes across the grassroots game in Suffolk will be honoured this week.

UNSUNG heroes across the grassroots game in Suffolk will be honoured this week.

The annual Suffolk FA Awards Ceremony is taking pace at Portman Road on Wednesday, ahead of Ipswich Town’s SkyBet League One fixture versus Rotherham United.

More than 50 invited guests will attend the Awards Ceremony, which is once again being sponsored by McDonald’s and Ransomes Jacobsen.

Awards will be presented to winners of The FA and McDonald’s Grassroots Football Awards 2019, as well as the Groundsman of the Year awards and Referee Long Service awards.

Following the Awards Ceremony guests will watch top-of-the-table Ipswich Town in action against Rotherham United.

Suffolk FA Chief Executive Richard Neal said: “Grassroots football is built on people going above and beyond the call of duty, in many instances on a totally voluntary basis.

“This annual event is our chance to recognise and thank those who dedicate so much time, passion and expertise in order for us all to get our weekly fix of the beautiful game.

“I hope the Ceremony and matchday experience at Ipswich Town goes some small way to making those people feel as special and appreciated as they are.”
