SIL sides bid for last eight berth in cup

THE SIL could have five representatives in the Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup quarter-finals.

THE Macron SIL could have as many as five representatives in the quarter-finals of this season’s Days Sports Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup.

Two Thurlow Nunn Reserve League sides – Hadleigh United and Whitton United – booked their places in the last eight last Saturday.

This weekend the league’s other three remaining representatives – Cornard United, Stowmarket Town and Woodbridge Town – face Lakenheath, Claydon and East Bergholt United respectively.

Both Claydon and East Bergholt United will be hoping to cause an upset and ensure a strong SIL presence in the latter stages along with Capel Plough, who travel to Beccles Town.

The other two ties are all SIL affairs – Coplestonians versus Achilles and Trimley Red Devils versus Old Newton United – guaranteeing at least two clubs a safe passage.

The draw for the quarter-finals will take place live on the Suffolk FA Twitter feed next Tuesday lunchtime at 12.30pm.

The second round of the HomeStore Suffolk Women’s Cup takes centre stage on Sunday, and no club will be in the spotlight more than AFC Kesgrave.

The Suffolk Girls’ & Women’s League side face the task of trying to defeat Ipswich Town, who have not lost a match in the competition since AFC Sudbury beat them 3-2 at the semi-final stage in March 2014!

They have since won the cup five years in a row and will be looking to advance to the quarter-finals of this season’s competition. Ipswich Town players are pictured above at the presentation of teams before last season's final against Needham Market at Portman Road.

Haverhill Rovers could have two sides in the last eight – their first team visit Brantham Athletic and their Development XI entertain Beccles Town.

The draw for the quarter-finals will be broadcast simultaneously on the Suffolk FA Twitter feed and BBC Radio Suffolk on the afternoon of Saturday, November 23rd.
