SUFFOLK was treated to a night of insight and ideas for coaching players in the Foundation Phase from FA National Lead, Pete Sturgess

Using the impressive facilities at Needham Market FC on Wednesday night, Pete had a large audience engrossed in how they can help to nurture young players in the Foundation Phase aged from 5-11-years-old by maximising game-based play and encouraging creativity ‘by staying on the ball’.

Once outside, the focus was on fun and experimentation, with Pete and County Coach Developer Jamie Godbold working with the Needham Market Phoenix Under-10s, providing them with countless learning opportunities via a range of techniques.

Pete’s energy and enthusiasm shone out on a rain-soaked evening and provided a timely reminder that the need to produce creative and brave players is the responsibility of all coaches in the game.

Suffolk FA Senior Football Development Officer Darren Scoulding said: “It’s always a pleasure to have Pete sharing his knowledge and love of player development with the coaches and players of Suffolk.

“You could feel the buzz as coaches left the evening invigorated to go back to their clubs and players, committed to providing the environment to help their players flourish.”
