Needham reach final in their first season

NEEDHAM Market have reached the Suffolk Women’s Cup Final in their first season.

NEEDHAM Market have reached the final of the HomeStore Self Storage Suffolk Women’s Cup in their first season.

The Marketwomen defeated Haverhill Rovers 4-1 in Sunday’s semi-final at Stoneylands, home of Long Meflord FC, in front of a good-sized crowd. Needham Market players are pictured above celebrating one of their goals.

They will now face holders Ipswich Town in the final at Portman Road on Tuesday, May 7th.

On Friday night AFC Sudbury A and Old Newton United Reserves both booked their places at Portman Road in this season’s KBB NEFF Suffolk Primary Cup Final to be played on Monday, May 13th.

It will be a first final appearance for AFC Sudbury A were 2-0 winners against Bedricks Worth in their last-four tie at Walsham-le-Willows FC.

Old Newton United Reserves, who were runners-up in this competition when they lost 4-2 to Bungay Town reserves in the 2008 final, won 3-0 versus Thurston at Debenham Leisure Centre.

The previous night Walsham-le-Willows came from a goal down at the interval to defeat Felixstowe & Walton United 3-1 in the first semi-final of the KBB NEFF Suffolk Boys’ Under-18 Midweek Cup at Stowmarket Town FC.

Walsham, the 2017 runners-up, will have to wait until Wednesday evening to find out who their opponents will be – Mildenhall Town and holders AFC Sudbury meet at The New Croft in Haverhill – in the final at Portman Road on Thursday, May 9th.

A Jarid Robson hat-trick saw Haverhill & Hove Albion beat holders Bardwell Sports 3-2 in their Sunday Trophy Semi-Final tie at Cornard Utd FC, while Lavenham overpowered Felixstowe-based opponents Hardy 8-0 at Whitton United FC.

Lavenham, who lost 5-4 after extra time to Haverhill Borough in the 2017 final, will be looking to go one better in this season’s final on Super Sunday at Needham Market FC on Sunday, April 28th.
