FORMER winners Gym United and Tostock Pirates will meet in the final of this season’s Suffolk Sunday Cup.
Both sides had surprisingly comfortable victories in Sunday’s semi-finals – Gym United beating Ipswich Sunday Football League side Borussia Martlesham 6-1 and Tostock Pirates disposed of fellow Bury & District Sunday League side Horringer Social Club 5-1.
Gym United, who won the cup in both 2014 and 2015, will now face Tostock Pirates, who lifted the cup the following year, in this season’s final as part of Super Sunday at Needham Market FC on Sunday, April 28th.
The semi-final line-up is now known in the Suffolk Veterans' Cup following Sunday’s quarter-final ties, with holders Woodbridge Town being joined by three teams who have not previously won the trophy.
Capel Plough, runners-up in both 2013 and 2014, defeated last year’s losing finalists AFC Hoxne 4-3, while Whitton United were 6-2 winners at home to Coplestonians.
Woodbridge edged past Walsham-le-Willows 2-1 while ETC Lowestoft had a walkover Westbourne Warriors.
The semi-final draw will take place on this week’s Thursday Night Sports Social on BBC Radio Suffolk between 8pm and 9pm.
There were big wins for Capel Plough Under-16s and Waveney Foxes Under-12s in the Crown Imperial Girls’ Cup Quarter-Finals, bringing the total of goals scored in Sunday’s seven ties to 43.
