First Senior Cup semi for Henley Athletic

HENLEY Athletic are through to their first Suffolk Senior Cup semi-final.

HENLEY Athletic are through to the semi-finals of the CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup for the first time.

The Touchline SIL side won 2-1 away away to fellow Senior Division side Bourne Vale United on Saturday to reach the last four.

It was as recently as the 2015-16 season that Henley lost 2-0 to AFC Hoxne in the final of the Suffolk Junior Cup.

Now they are just 90 minutes away from a return to Portman Road.

Reigning SIL champions Achilles booked their place in a third successive semi-final courtesy of a 2-0 quarter-final victory over Westerfield United.

They will be joined in the semi-finals by two Thurlow Nunn League Division One sides.

Ipswich Wanderers beat Haverhill Borough 2-0, while Cornard United were 1-0 winners away to Kirkley & Pakefield Reserves.

The draw for the semi-finals will be broadcast on BBC Radio Suffolk between 5.30pm and 6pm during this Saturday’s Final Whistle programme.

Bacton United 89, the 2017 winners, beat Suffolk Junior Cup holders AFC Kesgrave 2-0 to advance to the semi-finals of this season’s competition.

Joining them in the last four will be fellow SIL Division One sides Bildeston Rangers – 2-1 winners at home to Shotley – and Sporting 87, who scored the only goal of the game against Mutford & Wrentham 0.

The final four is completed by Halesworth Town, who knocked out another Division Two team Tacket Street BBOB 5-4 on penalties following a 2-2 draw.

Halesworth’s Curtis Moore is pictured above scoring the decisive penalty to the delight of their travelling fans.

The draw for the semi-finals will be announced in the Non-League hour between 8pm and 9pm on BBC Radio Suffolk’s Thursday Night Sports Social programme this week.

Framlingham Town became the first team to reach the semi-finals of this season’s Days Sports Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup following a 2-1 win at Haughley United.

Elsmett United, Holbrook Swan and Walton Wanderers will all be in the hat for the Suffolk Sunday Shield semi-final draw after winning at the weekend along with Fusilier.

The semi-final draw will take place in the Non-League hour on BBC Radio Suffolk’s Thursday Night Sports Social programme between 8pm and 9pm this week.

The Suffolk Sunday Trophy semi-final line-up will feature holders Bardwell Sports, Hardy, Lavenham and Haverhill & Hove Albion, who knocked-out last season’s runners-up Monarchs following a penalty shoot-out.

The semi-final draw will be held on BBC Radio Suffolk on the TNSS programme on Thursday, February 28th.

The weather disrupted the quarter-finals of the Crown Imperial Girls’ Youth Cups with six ties being postponed and one abandoned. The semi-final draws will be announced from 12.30pm on Wednesday via the Suffolk FA Twitter feed.
